Throughout the season, we have made regular donations to the Doylestown Food Pantry and other groups in need. Frequently, these donations have been a direct result of the generosity of our members. Thank you to all who have contributed.
On other occasions, when there have been overages or shares have been missed, it’s been a treat to deliver bins full of fresh produce to community members who might not otherwise have access to it. Now and then, though, we’ve been stuck. There have been bins in the cooler waiting for good homes, but for one reason or another, it just hasn’t been possible to get away from the farm to make a drop-off. In these instances, we’ve been lucky to have Cathy Snyder, founder of Rolling Harvest Food Rescue to call.
Rolling Harvest Food Rescue collects donated produce from local farms and markets (at no charge!), and distributes it immediately to area non-profit hunger-relief agencies. Open Acres has been working with Cathy for the past three years, and we can’t say enough good things about what she and the fantastic team of Rolling Harvest volunteers do for neighbors in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
