About Rolling Harvest Food Rescue
Since 2010, Rolling Harvest Food Rescue has connected local farms’ fresh, healthy surplus produce to food- and nutrition-insecure residents throughout Bucks County, PA and neighboring counties. Through farm-based gleaning, produce rescue, growing, and distribution programs, Rolling Harvest partners with dozens of local growers and dozens of hunger-relief sites — including food pantries, community kitchens, shelters, and low-income senior housing — to deliver fresh produce free of charge. The organization also facilitates nutrition education and awareness of food insecurity, food waste, and sustainable agriculture. Rolling Harvest envisions an equitable, local, and sustainable food system in which abundant access to fresh, healthy food is a fundamental right, not a privilege.

Position Summary
The Executive Director (ED) is the chief executive officer of Rolling Harvest Food Rescue and works in partnership with the Board of Directors to advance the organization’s mission. The ED provides strategic leadership, oversees daily operations, manages staff and volunteers, leads fundraising and development, and serves as the primary public face of the organization. This is an opportunity for a mission-driven leader to guide a well-established, respected grassroots nonprofit through its next stage of growth and impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide visionary leadership and translate the Board’s strategic priorities into an actionable operating plan.
• Oversee broad operational objectives, including gleaning, growing, and food rescue goals, Food Access Hub management, and special distributions.
• Engage in daily operations when needed.
• Recruit, supervise, and support a small paid team along with a large volunteer base.
• Lead fundraising efforts, individual donor cultivation, corporate partnerships, and special events. Assist the Deputy Director with grant writing and reporting.
• Support the Procurement & Volunteer Manager with maintaining and growing relationships with partner farms and hunger-relief agencies across Bucks, Hunterdon, Mercer, and Montgomery Counties.
• Manage the annual budget and ensure sound financial and administrative practices in partnership with the Board of Directors and Bookkeeper.
• Serve as the primary spokesperson with media, government officials, and community partners. Oversee all social media messaging.
• Report regularly to the Board of Directors and support Board development and governance.
• Champion the organization’s nutrition education and food-waste awareness initiatives.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of nonprofit management, hunger-relief, agricultural, or related community-impact experience involving strategic planning; direct executive leadership experience preferred
• Strong interpersonal skills, ability to manage others and build collaborations
• Ability to handle multiple responsibilities, prioritize work, solve problems, and operate under time and work volume pressure
• Demonstrated success in fundraising, grant writing, major gifts, and donor cultivation
• Strong financial management skills, including budgeting and nonprofit financial oversight
• Experience building and maintaining partnerships and relationships with diverse stakeholders — farmers, hunger relief organizations, volunteers, funders, and legislators
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; dynamic energy with an ability to speak publicly
• Familiarity with, and passion for RHFR’s mission, including food systems, agriculture, food recovery, and hunger-relief work
• Commitment to building an inclusive organization and working with a diverse community
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
• Valid driver’s license is required given regional travel

Compensation & Benefits
Compensation ranges from $80,000 to $90,000 commensurate with experience and education. Benefits include a health care stipend if needed, five weeks paid vacation, five PTO days, nine holidays, cell phone and home office allowances, and mileage reimbursement for regional travel. This position is a combination of remote and field-based work. Your schedule will fluctuate throughout the year based on seasonal demands and specific events.
